State Auto Centennial
A website to celebrate State Auto's 100 year history

Digging up artifacts
Where to start with a century of history? The project began in a dusty (also 100 year-old) basement where we rifled through stacks of old photos, scanned newspaper clippings and digitized video reels.

Interactive Timeline
Working with copy from my team and the Centennial mark from my creative lead, I set about creating a fully interactive timeline website, which allowed visitors to explore and interact at their pace.

Bringing artifacts to life
The use of various techniques, such as "2.5D" animation, colorization and digital restoration helped bring these 'artifacts' to life—such as this photograph of the company's founders.

Playful interactive elements
Why use a video thumbnail, when you could use an old retro TV and Rubik's cube instead?

Fusing elements of web design, animation, photo manipulation, video editing, and even music, (I created an original background track) this project was a privilege to take on, stretched me creatively, and received accolades for my team and the company.

The Hero
Design isn’t making things look pretty. It’s visual communication. Show them what’s important, why they should care, and what to do about it.

Product Categories & Benefit Callout
Color-coordination often helps guide a users path, whether they are aware of it or not.

Trending Items & Callouts
Mixing product links and brand pieces can help balance the page flow. And giving the user a variety of paths encourages a user to engage with the site.

Mobile View
The hero, product categories, and special callouts — custom tailored for mobile compatibility.

The Main Feed
This is the central hub where blog posts are populated. The blog allows for several key sizes and post styles.

The Filter Bar
A “sticky” sidebar filter of categories allows you to filter the posts in the feed.

The Archive
The blog had a bunch of old archived posts. How do you quickly navigate through all that content? An archive tab that allows year/month navigation was the solution.

Individual Post
Posts pop up in a modal box with internal navigation links, including: sharing, contact, and tags.

Contact Us Flyout
This tab allows a direct line to get in touch with the expert(s) who wrote the article.
